remember taking me a few days to get to thunder head keep by going through the missions and quest and trying it over and over never finding a group compentant enough to do it til i finally got a guild group with henchies that helped me finish it. oh yeah they were really fun. getting yelled at when i was told to tank and i moved in to grab aggro by the eles cause they wanted to hit monsters with a skill and i tried to explain to them wait til the come to me then hit em. i did love the day when monsters started running out of aoe that made my day so many complainers

Yellow + 3 silvers? There was always a black dye, it was just a different type of black, or something...

part of the reason i quit for 3 years after Nightfall because i could never find a group to do mission with. The heroes upgrade has turned Guildwars MMORPG into a boring 1 player game. no interaction watsoever. oh and i didn't buy the EotN.
i remember When the first 6th professions were perfect, and the next 4 professions were weak, well at least for me, i didn't like NCsoft trying to sell expansion by create sth in a rush.

The old black dye was actually black. The new one is uh...yeah. I liked the old dye system better, simply because the colors were richer and more vibrant. The new dyes are all a bit faded.

this thread is just too awesome.
I got loads of memories from the old days and I have to say that i'd give anything to play on these old gw builds. There is just no substitute for some of these things, like the ascalon fire on login screen, air spike with chain lighting, first time seeing flareway beating iway in video = priceless, doing sorrows furnace with 3 ppl, mm + ss + rezmer minion factory style, also the good old gear/book tricks were cool too, farming itself was alot more cool in general i know what you may think but it used to be a lot of fun... griffon's in desert + when they turned that area into scarab land, uw with protective bond duo was just insanely fun. ether renewal + zealots + db spam in both pve and pvp were insanely op and they nerfed everything except ether renewal over 5 updates or something. Just way too much stuff to list. But most of all i loved the wreckages that you could find outside in explorable areas, there used to be 3 of them outside of elona reach quick 5 min runs for like 1h each day, loads of purple/gold items = free money just couldn't compare to the chests we have now. What's with the chests anyway anything in normal mode is a complete waste of money u get nothing but purples with 1/10 gold items :S
Wish i had the screen cap from back in the day on my best ra run it was like 46 consec wins as a monk, my skills were nothing special think it was orison, heal other, purge cond, remove hex and cant remmember the rest except for unyielding aura was the most dumb skill for a monk to have, esp now but back then people didn't go to kill monks first as much so i could res them up instantly and it was just too funny.
Oh and boon prots were really overpowered yet cool and fun to play, slap enchants on yourself and hit the baby! haha

I remember:
-My first "actual" guild mates
-My first set of elite armor (elite pigmail, woo!)
-My first Fiery Dragon Sword, which is still the weapon I use 99% of the time
-The old log-in screen
-The Factions one, my favorite. I had some of the best memories around Factions' release

I remember running tombs and raping iQ in the face with my hammer.
I also clearly remember farming sigils. I thought i was badass.
And the electric spike build, forgot name of skill.

I remember...
People going on skill capping runs.
Trying to skill cap stances and other fast casting abilities.
Trying to find a group to kill Glint.
Trying to maintain 20+ minions at once and having a dedicated healer to keep me up :P
The occasional tombs team where they come out of the gate with like 80 minions.
BSing my way through tombs and eventually getting my deer.
When IWAY was new. Heck, before IWAY existed.
Ranger spikes and Air spikes.
When observer mode was added. Watching EoE bombs in HoH was always so much fun.
Being a part of the monk strike
Missing the dye/rune resets by a few hours.
Going to do tombs when I wanted to farm UW.
55'ing, SS'ing, and solo trapping UW.
Casting PB over and over again until you got +1, respec'ing, casting healing bonds, and then respec'ing and smiting stuff.
Skills not being separated and the PvE vs PvP QQ fests that would ensue when one side got an ability nerfed.
People selling their special mixed dyes.
When they added IDS to go with the FDS.
Farming IDS and never getting one
The first Halloween, and afterwards, doing runs to get pumpkin crowns infused :P
Sorrow's Furnace, and all the greens that went with it.
SF groups being gear tank / bonder / healing monk / mm necro / fire eles.
Being a Mesmer when nobody wanted a Mesmer (or really knew what a Mesmer did).
When ascending leveled you to 20.
Henching the desert on my Mesmer after the ascension change, and standing around the Dragon's Lair at level 18.
Being Prot when everyone wanted healing, lying to pugs, and then springing the trap when the mission was complete. :P
Solo-healing stuff that "needed 3 monks".
I think that's a long enough trip down memory lane.

oh man, good times.
Duke's Daughter and Althea's Ashes. I remember seeing that green star, and was like, WTF, that's sooooooo far.
experienced players helping the new players.
shouting at my computer, "OMFG he lit the torches" (THK)
Flaring my way through the game. that skill was great, so was tank and spank with MS before that update.

On a lot of armors (Ranger Canthan, for example), Silver dye WAS white. And even when it wasn't it was more "silver" and less "metallic grayish-teal"...
Also, anyone else remember the 2nd loading screen? The one with the Fire Islands and that bigass whale and your character standing on some random pillar in the ocean? That was the one that was there when I started playing...

I remember playing the open beta.
you started at Lions Arch and you were already level 15.
Unlocking skills worked a little differently, you had to find a skill signet out in the wild and bring it back to the skill trainer. (I think... that one is a little fuzzy :P)
You could also unlock all the current skills with a click of a button with PvP characters.
You were also god if you had the deer rank emote. haha, oh have the times changed.

1. Unlimted minions - It was awesome being a minion master back then.
2. Thunderhead Keep mission - By far the hardest mission and probably one of the most fun to do.
3. When Guild Wars was all about fun and not title grinding.

Just talking to a mate yesterday and who started about 4 years ago and he said to me.
Thinking Pre-Profs was the "whole game" and feeling a little riped off
and when he did realize there was more thinking it's so big
ill never finish the game.
That's his early memory of GW
Needless to say he has finished the game and campaigns over many times now.
LOL

Some of my earliest memories of Guild Wars, other than the anticipation for preview events (and ArenaNet often starting them a little late)
The E3 for everyone preview event... Starting outside Ascalon with little idea of what I was meant to be doing, wandering along the path through the ruined city popping Gargoyles, and then a guardsman asks for my assistance dealing with some 'renegade elementalists'... it was like walking into a meat grinder.
The invasion style Fort Koga map from that preview event, randomly formed teams, one side defending the fort and their guild lord, the other side trying to find a way in to kill the NPC, it was newbie, but it was a blast.
The game updating and suddenly Prince Rurik was asking for assistance, and omg they added a new area to the game! Oh... snow, pretty!, Oh, big undead dragon, not pretty I still have screen shots of our party standing victorious over the undead beast. The people were pretty awesome back them, everything was fresh, new and exciting.
Really, good times, a sense of wonder and exploration, and lots of good people, many have sadly moved on to other games.
